15 lipca 2018 roku jako GM Boardgames mieliśmy okazję pojechać na konwent Joy of Six do Sheffield w Wielkiej Brytanii. Konwent jest organizowany od 2014 roku przez Baccus i Wargames Emporium i poświęcony tylko i wyłącznie figurkom i grom w skali 6 mm.
Konwent odbywał się w samym centrum Sheffield, w Hallam University. Budynki uniwersytetu są położone zaledwie 5 minut od głównej stacji kolejowej. Dookoła jest bardzo dużo przystanków komunikacji miejskiej, więc można też wygodnie dojechać do innych części miasta i np. zobaczyć wielką halę do gry w hokeja.
Konwent odbywał się w głównym budynku Uniwersytetu, na jego 6 piętrze. Zajmował dwie ogromne sale oraz łącznik między nimi. Co ważne, przed samo wejście można wjechać samochodami, co ułatwia wypakowywanie akcesoriów do pokazów. W jednej z sal znajduje się uniwersytecka restauracja, gdzie można bardzo tanio zjeść albo napić się kawy i innych napojów.
Po przybyciu na miejsce organizatorzy bardzo szybko i sprawnie pokazali nam nasze miejsce: stoisko i stół do pokazów. W naszym sąsiedztwie znajdowały sie dwa bardzo fajne sklepy oraz pokazowa bitwa pod Horką (hipotetyczne starcie z 1708 roku między Szwedami i Rosjanami. Pozdrawiamy ekipę Per Broden & Wyre Forest Gamers).
Uradowało nas bardzo duże zainteresowanie naszymi figurkami i akcesoriami, bardzo dużo osób pytało też o przepisy gry. Mieliśmy okazję zaprezentować je i opowiedzieć o podstawowych zasadach.
Przez konwent przewinęło się bardzo dużo osób, które miały okazję oglądać wiele gier pokazowych i zawitać do wielu sklepów. Gry dotyczyły różnych epok i okresów, od starożytności, po XX wiek. Ich cechą charakterystyczną było pokazanie najważniejszej zalety skali 6 mm – OGROMNYCH BITEW! Niektóre stoły miały kilka metrów szerokości. Stały na nich setki podstawek i tysiące figurek. Cieszymy się bardzo, że skala 6 mm coraz lepiej się rozwija i liczmy, że podobnie będzie w Polsce.

Na koniec chcielibyśmy bardzo podziękować organizatorom konwentu: Baccus i Wargames Emporium. Zostaliśmy niezwykle serdecznie przyjęci. Atmosfera podczas konwentu była znakomita, organizacja również stała na bardzo wysokim poziomie. Wszystko było bardzo dobrze oznaczone i opisane. Bardzo się cieszymy, że udało nam się poznać i porozmawiać z tyloma osobami, które znaliśmy tylko z Internetu (serdeczne pozdrowienia dla Daniela Hodgsona i Petera Bradforda). Z całą pewnością chcemy przyjechać na Joy of Six 2019. Zatem, do zobaczenia za rok!

On July 15, 2018, as GM Boardgames, we had the opportunity to go to the Joy of Six convention in Sheffield, UK. The Convention has been organized since 2014 by Baccus and Wargames Emporium and is devoted only to figures and games on a 6 mm scale.
The convention was held in the very center of Sheffield, at Hallam University. The university buildings are located just 5 minutes from the train station. There are many public transport stops around, so you can easily get to other parts of the city and, for example, see a great hockey arena.
The convention was held in the main building of the University, on its 6th floor. It was situated in two huge rooms and a link between them. What is important, you can drive cars in front of the entrance, which makes it easier to unpack accessories for presentation games. In one of the rooms there is a university restaurant, where you can eat very cheap or have a coffee and other drinks.
After arriving at the venue, the organizers showed us our place (fantastic organisation!): a stand and a table for demo game. Neas us there were two very cool shops and a giant table with the Battle of Horka (a hypothetical clash in 1708 between Swedes and Russians during The Great Northern War – cordial greetings to the Per Broden & Wyre Forest Gamers team).
We were very pleased with the great interest in our figurines and accessories. A lot of people also asked about the rules of our game Gods of War: Robert E. Lee. We had the opportunity to present them and talk about the basic rules.
A lot of people have passed through the convention. They had the opportunity to watch many demonstration games and visit many shops. The games concerned various periods, from antiquity to the 20th century. Their feature was to show the most important advantage of the 6 mm scale – HUGE BATTLES! Some tables were several meters wide. Hundreds of stands and thousands of miniatures stood on them. We are very happy that the 6 mm scale is developing better and better and we hope that it will be similar in Poland.
At the end, we would like to thank the organizers of the convention: Baccus and Wargames Emporium. We were very warmly welcomed. The atmosphere during the convention was excellent, the organization was also at a very high level. Everything was very well marked and described. We are very happy that we were able to meet and talk to so many people that we knew only from the Internet (greetings to Daniel Hodgson and Peter Bradford). We definitely want to come to Joy of Six 2019. So, see you next year!
